This unusual, large, banana-shaped squash is well-known in the mountains of Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, and North Georgia and was originally discovered, nurtured, and evolved by the Cherokee people. The Cherokee Nation continues to grow Georgia Candy Roasters and distribute seed to help preserve their culture and foodways. Georgia candy roaster is a sweet, delicious heirloom variety known to be one of the best squash varieties for storing through winter. I highly recommend making pies out of the squashes.
