Golden Columbine is a beautiful perennial wildflower with bright yellow to golden-yellow blooms, each up to about 3 inches wide. The flowers are held above the foliage on long stems and have those classic columbine spurs. Its leaves are divided and lacy, giving it a delicate, ferny look. It usually grows about 1-3 feet tall. It’s native to the southwestern U.S., often found in moist mountain canyons and near springs.

  • •Attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hawk-moths—especially good for those that like long-spur flowers.

•Makes a great ornamental plant in gardens because it blooms for a long stretch in late spring into early summer and sometimes again if conditions are good.

•It tolerates heat and some drought once established, so it works in spots that get hot, as long as soil is not soggy.

  • •Light: Prefers part shade to light shade; can take more sun in cooler climates or if soil stays cool and moist. Full hot sun can stress it.

•Soil & Moisture: Likes moist, well-drained soil; soil rich in organic matter helps. Avoid waterlogging.

•Bloom Time: Late spring into early summer. Some plants will rebloom if old flowers are removed.

•Height & Spread: Roughly 1-3 ft tall, with spread about 1-2 ft depending on conditions.
