A vigorous, wide-spreading heirloom cucumber variety that produces 2-4 inch wide orb-shaped fruits. The striking yellow flowers begin baring fruit cucumbers around mid to late summer; starting light green and gradually shifting to a beautiful white-tan with yellow accents as they reach maturity. This heirloom has seed saving dating back all the way to 1894. The plants can be trellised or used as a ground cover, although the flowers are susceptible to rot if you’re watering by hand/over the garden. Pinch off any rotting flower blossoms and most will recover. The plants thrive in full sun and are especially productive when grown between other high-reaching plants, shrubs, or trees. The cucumbers themselves have a slightly sweeter and much crunchier taste than most other cucumber varieties; and make amazing pickles.
