Peace Lily is one of the most popular indoor plants, known for its lush green leaves and striking white, sail-like flowers. It’s easy to care for, thrives in low light, and helps improve indoor air quality. With its graceful look and forgiving nature, it makes an excellent choice for homes, offices, and shaded indoor spaces.
Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum spp.)
Peace Lilies are recognized—through NASA’s famous Clean Air Study and follow-up research—for removing several volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from indoor air. These include:
•Formaldehyde
•Benzene
•Trichloroethylene (TCE)
•Xylene
•Ammonia
They work by absorbing these pollutants through their leaves, which are then broken down by microbes in the soil, and also by releasing moisture and oxygen into the room.
•Light: Tolerates low to medium indoor light, though better blooms appear in bright, indirect light.
•Soil: Use a well-draining, moist potting mix.
•Water: Keep soil evenly moist—the plant will droop when thirsty but quickly perks up after watering.
•Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity— if grown in dry climates you’ll want to spray the plant with misted water on a daily basis.
