A breathtaking, fiery wildflower native to the SouthWestern U.S, Scarlet Bugler is an easy-to-care-for, drought-tolerant plant that attracts hummingbirds and song birds and pollinators alike. The plant bears bright red flowers atop a long, prominent stem from each plant from late-Spring to Early-Fall; very rarely of which won't be accompanied by a hummingbird or two. During the Spring the plant brandishes long, magical, waxy, moonlit-grey leaves.
Scarlet Bugler (Penstemon centranthifolius)
•Loved by hummingbirds and pollinators—the tubular red flowers are especially attractive to them.
•Offers summer-to-fall blooms, so it helps extend color late into the season when many other plants are fading.
•Thrives in tough environments: dry, rocky, sandy soils; helps with erosion control and adds interest to otherwise bare or harsh terrain.
•Light: Best in full sun to part sun; the more sun, the better for bloom.
•Soil: Prefers well-drained soils: rocky, sandy, or gritty; dislikes soils that stay too wet.
•Water: Low water needs once established. Overwatering or poor drainage can cause problems.
•Size & Habit: Usually ~2-3 ft tall, ~1-1.5 ft wide. Flower stalks can be quite prominent and tall.
•Bloom Time: Blooms from early summer through late summer / early fall depending on surrounding climate.
