Service Description

Syntropic farming is something that I, Dylan, have been practicing for almost 4 years now- it's an infusion of indigenous practices, soil remediation, and crop production. Every project is asked to provide a max budget for each week- as low or high as they want. This translates to work hours from me- $40/hr for labor, $20/hr for mulching. Every town and property is different, but think of syntropic farming as participating in an ecosystem. When installing these sites, I focus on creating self-sustaining and self-seeding systems. As the years continue and the sites expand, we'll gradually reduce the amount of work, water, and time that you have to put into your beloved landscapes; all the while exponentially increasing the abundance of foods, medicines, and materials you and your community can tap into. The first step of any garden I install starts with the soil; for the first 4-8 months (depending on the health of the soil) our main focus will be adding organic matter and growing cover crops/shrubs that grow very large very quickly- cutting them back and mulching them back into the soil repetitively. In tandem with this growth of soil, I will be helping you make "compost teas" to spray onto the soil; adding nutrients and soil building bacteria. I also supply worm-tea fertilizer which helps plants recover and grow. We can add passive compost piles to help add nutrients & soil mass to the gardens as well. This can also be subsidized with store-bought composts, although they’re more expensive. As the mulch sources continue to break down, the decomposing layers will help retain moisture and add a protective barrier from the sun. The next step is installing a series of native flowers, shrubs, and medicines along with plants that have deep, penetrating tap-roots. These plants will accumulate nutrients from far below the soil. As this self-perpetuating soil production grows, we will then begin to add food crops, keeping the idea “ecosystem” in mind. I will help you install a series of crops that are prolific, often-times self-sowing, and designed to thrive in the unique landscape that you occupy. As the years continue; these crops continuing to grow and reproduce; each new generation produces more and more abundance than the last- with less and less care. With a balance of soil remediation, crop integration, and native plant integration we can transform your property into a self-sufficient food forest!
